DESIGNING AN INEFFICIENT KILLING DEVICE, 2024

Found sword, leather, clay, epoxy
71 x 41 x 18 cm ( 28 x 16 x 7 in)

This project reimagines and redesigns weaponry as a symbolic exploration of the evolution of violence and its desensitization in contemporary society. Informed by a visit to Los Alamos, a site of nuclear weapon development, the work examines the way war and destruction are engineered with precision while often being abstracted from their human consequences. The design envisions a weapon that is deliberately cumbersome and impractical, emphasizing its weight and unwieldiness. By disrupting the glorification of violence inherent in its portrayal, the project critiques the increasing efficiency of weaponry and its detachment from tactile or emotional significance.
