GRASS PAINTING, 2020
Grass, grass paint | 56 x 70 cm (22 x 24 in)
Shan Wu & Drew Cavicchi
GRASS PAINTING plays on the concept of artificiality in lawn keeping and maintaining an image of status. An image of grass is painted on a patch of dried out grass with grass paint.
A lush lawn has long been a symbol of wealth and prestige and lawn keeping continues to portray middle-class American homeowners’ life. The urge to maintain a perfect lawn spawned artificial products like grass paint, which is used to make grass look greener, hide imperfections, and sometimes for saving water in dry areas.
