MAGIC MOUNTAIN, 2024
Semiconductor wafer, wood, acrylic paint
30 x 30 x 2.5 cm (12 x 12 x 1 in) each

MAGIC MOUNTAIN explores the fusion of Taiwan's cultural legacy, its pivotal role in the semiconductor industry, and the geopolitical tensions with China. At the heart of the piece is the Bagua mirror, traditionally a fengshui ornament designed to ward off negativity. Here, it is reimagined with a semiconductor wafer at its core, symbolizing the industry's significant role in political turmoil while reflecting the blend of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology.

This reimagining also pays homage to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), affectionately known as "護國神山" or the "Magic Mountain that Protects the Country" among the Taiwanese people. The nickname stems from the belief that TSMC’s dominance in chip manufacturing serves as a shield, preventing potential invaders from disrupting the delicate balance of the global economy.
